| Major four-book deal for Malaz co-creator |
[Dec. 12th, 2008|01:56 pm] |
John Jarrold has concluded a four-book World rights deal for Canadian fantasy writer Ian Cameron Esslemont with Simon Taylor of Transworld Publishers in London for a strong five-figure sum in pounds sterling. Esslemont created the Malaz world with Steven Erikson, and joined his co-creator in writing novels set in the world with NIGHT OF KNIVES, followed by RETURN OF THE CRIMSON GUARD. Both of these books have been published in the UK by Transworld and are being published elsewhere in the world. All four of the new books are also set in the Malaz world. The first book, called STONEWIELDER, is due for delivery in September 2009, and publication in 2010.
‘I’m really delighted about this deal,’ said John Jarrold. ‘Simon Taylor and Transworld have shown their long-term belief in Cam Esslemont, at a time when much of the publishing world is wringing its hands over its shorter-term problems.’ |

Beshrew me, Jarrold, you're the busy bee at the moment. Congrats to you both (always sounds like you're having a baby together but... well, I suppose you are!)
'Sblood! Yes, it's been a fast-moving few months since I did the deal with Gollancz for Hannu Rajaniemi...I suspect that this will be the last agency deal for 2008, but we live in hope...
Oh, I'm sure you could fit another one in if you really, really tried... ;)
Goodness, you've been busy. Congrats!
STONEWIELDER has been discussed on the Malazan forums for some time, so I was delighted to tell them that four more Malaz novels are coming from Cam!
congrats sounds like another great deal.
out of interest are these further Malaz novels, or a standalone series / world
crimson guard is my next book off the rank, so to speak.
